College of Built Environments Departmental Program in TaopingChina
  • Terms:  Summer 2009
  • Subjects:  The 2009 BELab (Built Environment Laboratory) is an interdepartmental sequence of courses offered by the College of Built Environments, at the University of Washington, Seattle, on the topic of earthquake recovery in Sichuan, China.
  • Housing:  It is expected that accommodations in Taoping will be in the form of homestays with villagers.

  • Terms:  Two quarters (Fall & Winter), three quarters (Academic year) or Summer quarter.
  • Eligibility:  Sophomore standing or above. One year Mandarin required.
  • Instruction:  In English. Intensive Mandarin courses offered as well. Summer quarter option focuses intensively on Mandarin language study.

  • Cost:  Exchange fee equal to UW tuition and IPE fee. (For the Summer quarter students will also pay a program fee directly to Sichuan U.) Please request a budget from the IPE office for total estimated costs.

  • Terms:  Summer (six weeks)
  • Eligibility:  Junior standing or above. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Completion of CHIN 203 or equivalent. Program is designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students of Chinese.
  • Instruction:  In Mandarin Chinese
  • Subjects:  The core curriculum targets general language skills, while elective classes such as business, law and history allow for a specialized focus.
  • Housing:  Student residences with Chinese roommates
